Episode 11: Discerning Between The Conflicting Voices In Your Head
Do you struggle with mental torment, constantly sorting through conflicting voices in your mind that are telling you what to do? You know, the one voice that says “keep eating” and the other voice that says “stop eating;” the voice of discouragement and the voice of encouragement. It can be overwhelming trying to navigate the multiple voices in your mind, which is why in this episode I share three frameworks to help you conceptualize and understand these voices:
1. The Ego Self v True self
2. The Wise Mind Model from DBT
3. The Inner Parts (Child, Adolescent, Parent)
My intention is that you’ll be able to pick a model that resonates with you so that you can apply this new way of viewing the voices in your own mind, making it easier to discern who is speaking and which voice you are going to listen to moving forward. Being able to master your mind in this way is a key component on your healing journey, because as you improve your way of thinking, you’ll support yourself in improving the choices you make, not just when it comes to eating behaviors, but also in all areas of your life.
